Development Corner

Development proposed for old gas station lot -> 10422 & 10432 Islington

There has been a development application submitted to the city for a proposed development on the old gas station property just north of the old United Church on the west side of Islington Avenue. The proposed development is for a 3 storey, multi-unit mixed-use building (16 commercial and 13 residential units) with underground parking. A good portion of the commercial space would be used by a dance studio.  The building is significantly larger than what is on the property now - it basically fills the lot at street level and replaces the old vicar’s house below with a parking lot. It is not in keeping with the Official Plan.

Community Meeting - Tues April 12, 7pm at Kleinburg Public Library

Re:  proposed development on Stegman’s Mill
As a result of the level of public concern raised at the Feb 2 Public Meeting over the proposed development on Stegman’s Mill, Councillor Iafrate has organized a community meeting with the applicant, representatives of the KARA residents, appropriate City staff and Regional Councillors to address the issues raised.   If you are concerned about this development, please take the time to attend this meeting.  This is our last opportunity to affect what happens.

Community Meeting - Tues April 19, 7pm at City Hall

Re: Official Plan Amendment to deal with multiple units replacing single family dwellings in residential areas
City of Vaughan Policy Planning staff and Urban Strategies Inc.  will be hosting a Public Meeting for Ward 1 regarding the Community Area Policy Review for Low-Rise Residential Designations.  The proposed policy review will focus on issues such as compatibility of proposed infill development in existing Community Areas designated Low-Rise Residential by the Vaughan Official Plan 2010. Examples of infill development include proposals to replace small homes with larger ones on the same lot or assemble lands to build multi-unit developments. Your feedback on the policy recommendations and urban design guidelines is needed for staff to complete its report for the Fall of 2016.

Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) Reform Petition

Official Plan amendments or Zoning By-law changes are decided by Municipal Council.  However, planning decisions may be appealed to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB), an unelected, appointed body that is not accountable to the residents. Therefore, residents and politicians are calling on the province to take  action to review the powers and process of the OMB to ensure that OMB is respectful of municipal planning policies and local decision making and complies with Provincial Policy.

Water Usage by Kleinburg Residents

Did you know Kleinburg residents are among the highest water users in York Region?
  • Water once a week to encourage deep, strong root growth and ensure your lawn can better cope with the hot, dry weather of summer only if there hasn't been a significant amount of rainfall
  • Water your grass in the early morning when the sun is lowest; watering while the sun is low ensures water gets to the roots instead of evaporating
  • Avoid evening or overnight watering as this creates cool, moist conditions which can lead to problems with disease and insects
